Privacy Policy

YourMoves is built to be private by design. This policy explains what data the app touches and what happens to it.

Health data stays on your device, unless you join Friends

YourMoves reads steps, walking distance, flights climbed, active energy and walking pace from Apple Health, with your permission, to show your progress, streaks, trends and journeys, and, if you connect your watch walks, your outdoor workouts and their routes, to add them to your city. This data is processed and stored on your device. The one exception is Friends, below, and only if you choose to join it. You can revoke Health access at any time in Settings.

Friends (optional)

Friends lets you compare steps with people you add. If you join, our server keeps:

• your daily step totals (just the number of steps per day; walks, routes, distance and other Health data are never sent to us; steps you typed into Health by hand are left out),
• the name and emoji you pick, and your country’s flag if you choose to show it,
• your friend code, your friends, friend requests, people you blocked, and any reports you make,
• an identifier derived from your App Store purchase record of YourMoves, so you are the same person on every device without creating an account. It contains no name or email,
• if the app’s notifications are on, your phone’s push token (the address Apple gives the app for sending it notifications), so you hear when a friend accepts your invite. It is used for nothing else. It is deleted when you leave Friends, at once when you turn notifications off in the app (if you turn them off in iOS Settings instead, the next time you open the app), or after 60 days without use. To keep notifications fair, we also count how many of these you get a day and note who they were about, so the same person can’t notify you more than once in 30 days,
• your phone’s time zone and language setting, so friend notifications ("a friend just passed you", one evening nudge when first place is within reach, at most 2 a day) arrive at sensible hours and show numbers your way. You can turn these off with "Friends updates" in your Friends profile.

Your step totals, name, emoji and flag are shown only to the friends you add. We use this data only to run Friends. It is stored with Cloudflare in the European Union, never sold, and never used for advertising or tracking.

Leave Friends any time from your profile in the Friends tab: your profile, step totals, friends, requests, invites and everything else that names you are deleted from our server straight away. To keep other people safe, a few records stay for a while, tied to you only by a code made from your App Store purchase record with a secret key: blocks other people made on you and reports about you (365 days), friend requests of yours that were declined (30 days), how many requests your app made each day (4 days), and, if you accepted someone’s invite, the note that they were notified about you (30 days, so joining again doesn’t notify them twice). They hold no name, emoji, steps or profile ID. Reports you made stay, without your ID. Deleting the app does not delete your Friends data: leave Friends first, or write to us and we will.

If someone’s name or emoji is offensive, report it from their menu on the board. We look at every report within a day.

Maps and places

My city draws your walks on a map. Walks you record in the app use your location only while you record them, and stay on your device with the rest of your walks. The map itself comes from Mapbox, which sees which part of the map is being shown, along with standard technical data such as your IP address, but never your walks; Mapbox’s own telemetry is turned off. Place names for your walks are looked up with Apple’s maps service.

No ads, no tracking

YourMoves shows no ads and contains no advertising or analytics trackers. Apart from Friends, which you can choose to join, there are no accounts.

Purchases

If you subscribe to YourMoves+ or buy a lifetime unlock, the purchase is processed by Apple. We use RevenueCat to validate purchases and manage subscription status. RevenueCat receives purchase information and an anonymous, randomly generated identifier. It does not receive your name, email or any health data. See the RevenueCat privacy policy for details.

Notifications

Reminders and goal celebrations are local notifications, scheduled and delivered entirely on your device. Enabling them is optional.

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page.
